Dan Mills (American, born 1956 in Waterloo, New York) grew up in Schenectady New York. He received a BFA from Rochester Institute of Technology in 1978, and MFA from Northern Illinois University in 1981. Recent solo shows include: Meditations on Empire, Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts Museum, China (09-10); US Future States Atlas, Sherry Frumkin Gallery, Santa Monica (09); Future States Atlas, University of Tennessee (08); American Icons & Morphs, Zolla/Lieberman Gallery, Chicago (07); Empire, Millersville University, Pennsylvania (08) and Lynchburg College, Virginia (07). Selected group shows include Party Headquarters: Voting is Just the Beginning at Pratt Manhattan Gallery, New York; Lines in the Earth: Maps, Power and the Imagination at Sun Valley Center for the Arts in Ketchum, ID (2007); Long March: Yan'an Project Retrospective, Long March Space, Factory 798, Beijing, and Lu Xun Academy, Yan'an, China (2006-07); What War?, White Box, New York; and Misleading Trails, China Art Archives & Warehouse, Beijing, Vanderbilt University Fine Arts Gallery (2004-06, traveled nationally in the US). He was included in Katherine Harmon's The Map as Art: Contemporary Artists Explore Cartography (Princeton Architectural Press, New York), also 2009. His exhibitions have been reviewed in the Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, and New Art Examiner. His work is in numerous collections including J.P. Morgan Chase, and John D. & Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.
