Maple is made from tree leaves collected from the Evergreen Forest in Olympia, Washington; slow cured, then brush pen calligraphed with the below poem, and sewn into maple leaf collaged book boards.

Maple

How these
exuberant
season-days fly

my red buds
arise early
and burst

blooming into green
leaves each morn
turning into
blissful flames every eve

Then during night’s dark comfort
they fall
nourishing
the ground for my seed

my possible progeny
sprouts from the soft dirt

reaching for the sky
in a day

in a branch of months
they will be half as tall as me

Rivaling my girth in a year
like me
they will feel decades
grow to centuries
